PRESCHOOL LEARNING APPROACH
All over the world, playful learning has been replaced by volumes of disconnected fact-based learning involving sitting still and silent for long hours. Memorization has replaced true learning, with success being measured by test scores. The long-lasting effects of direct instruction can be “poor study habits, achievement, greater distractibility, hyperactivity, and peer aggression.” (Hirsh-Pasek, 2014)
Through the Montessori three-period lesson, we teach vocabulary associated with the concrete objects and pictures. We use words of proximity: on top of; beside; next to; below; adjacent. Through guided play, we teach both spatial and mathematical concepts and build the foundation for future learning. Practical life activities expose our children to daily life tasks hence nurturing self independence skills. Culture and Science expands their knowledge of the environment and interconnectedness with the universe.
